RAPS (Ram-Air Progression System) Course · Accommodation at North West Parachute Centre · Full day of ground training · First solo Skydive · Provisional Membership to British Parachuting Association · Third Party Insurance
On course weekends, the club travels up to Skydive North West, in the Lake District, on a Friday evening. Where possible, we car share (if you’ve got a car let us know) but a train ticket costs less then £15 return with a railcard. When we get there we have a few drinks and generally get to know each other.
Known as RAPS (Ram Air Progression System), your course will take place on the Saturday. The course consists of approximately 6-8 hours ground training (a lot more fun than it sounds!!) followed by your first solo Skydive from 3500ft (weather permitting) on either the Saturday or Sunday. Your main parachute is opened automatically by use of a static line which is attached to the aircraft, so all you have to do is JUMP and enjoy yourself!! Check out our Facebook group for videos of people making their first jumps. After the initial course you will be able to make further skydives, all the time working your way through the British Parachute Association (BPA) Category System, At every jump you will learn new skills enabling you to do you very first free fall! and develop into a fully-qualified skydiver. The table below shows the requirements for each level and the skills you will be learning. However, every skydiver is different and progresses in their own time; the jump numbers are intended only as a rough guideline as to how long it may take you. All additional training after your 1st skydive is FREE (provided you don’t go three months without visiting the dropzone), all you have to do is pay for your Jump Ticket. The friendly staff at the North West Parachute Centre will always be on hand to give you free advice and any additional training you require. |
